Chandigarh: Until the year 2008 there were only 2 leaders in English Language Proficiency exam which is used for testing the students ability to communicate in English: IELTS (International English Language Testing System) and TOEFL (Test for English as a Foreign Language).
But in 2009 Pearson (which is one of the prominent publishing companies in USA) has introduced its own test for checking the English Language Proficiency called “Pearson Test of English” or PTE Academic.
While IELTS exam Scores are mostly acceptable in European Countries and Australia and TOEFL Score is considered in USA, The PTE Academic Exam Scores are acceptable in more than 6000 institutions all over the world.
So, based on the country you wish to go to and pursue your higher education, accordingly you should choose the type of exam. Most schools and universities which accept IELTS and TOEFL also accept the PTE Academic Exam Scores.
The question one must ask themselves “Which type of testing am I comfortable with?” If you choose to go with TOEFL or the PTE Academic exam, your speaking abilities will be tested by a person listening to your recorded audio (for TOEFL exam) or by a computer (for PTE Exam). If you are more comfortable for a face to face test, you should go with IELTS Exam.
Other important factor you must consider while selecting the type of Exam is, you need to be sure that the test you take is accepted by the university which you are applying for. If the university does not accept the test then there is no point. IELTS Exam Scores are widely accepted in Australian and European institutions and PTE is the Newest of the 3 exams and is highly accepted in Australian universities and UK universities.
Don’t make any assumptions and make sure that you’re the type of test you choose is accepted by the university you are applying for.
